App of the day: Yahoo! Wireless Festival 2013 (iOS / Android / Blackberry)
Heading to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for the Yahoo! Wireless Festival this coming weekend? Then don’t leave home without the official festival app, complete with listings, a planner, map, news, social media integration and even push notifications which, we hope, will lift the lid on those “TBA” special guests announcements.

Some apps are time sensitive, and this is one of them. Taking place from Friday 12 July to Sunday 14 July 2013, the three day Wireless festival has uprooted from its former Hyde Park venue and is the first big event to be held at what many will know as the Olympic Park in London’s Stratford since the Olympics.
Whereas many out-in-the-sticks festivals demand you keep that precious phone battery charge going by using it as little as possible, Wireless-goers head home after each day. So fill your boots – download the app and use it to your heart’s content to get all the latest info while on the festival site.
The most useful element of the app is the My Schedule planner which, after opening up the Line-up to scroll-through the list of artists by date, time and stage, can be used to “star” your must-see acts which then appear in stage time order in your personal planner. Unfortunately clashes between different stages aren’t highlighted should you select overlapping performances, but as there’s a map you could always hop to between one performer and another.
There’s social media integration too – post a fan photo, create a postcard, check out the official Facebook, Twitter and Flickr feeds to keep and eye what’s going on around the site in real time. And we bet that the push notifications will come in handy for recommendations and last-minute artist calls.
If you’re not aware of an artist, or just fancy pulling the level to find out more, then Discover loads up a random assortment of artists on the bill which can be explored in more detail via images and links to their individual websites.
It’s only got a three-day life span, but we reckon the Yahoo! Wireless Festival 2013 app is an essential for anyone heading to the festival. Dollop on the sun cream, enjoy the music and have some fun.
